What is your role at Avison Young?

Director, National Operations, Canada.

How did you get into commercial real estate?

I met Mark Fieder who encouraged me to consider applying to Avison Young and almost 16 years later, it still feels like one of the best decisions I have ever made.

What advice would you give women starting out in real estate?

Be authentic - there is only one you! While you're networking, being mentored, and learning from others, adopt ideas and best practices that you can truly stand behind - ensure you are staying true to your own personal brand.

This year's IWD theme is Choose to Challenge. What do you choose to challenge or celebrate to help create more inclusion in your community?

I #choosetochallenge everyone to own the difference your difference makes. Use your voice and be an advocate for yourself and your peers. Be vocal, be confident, and be yourself!

What women’s organizations would you recommend other women get involved with?

Avison Young's Women's Network, CREW, Lean In, and CRE8 (Toronto based) are all terrific. I recommend getting involved with as many organizations that you see value in and can contribute to - not just women focused. I actively participate with NAIOP and my university alumni group, but also suggest ULI, and Corenet.
