Meet Anne-Marie Ayers

What is your role at Avison Young?

I am a Principal and my concentration is in the office sector representing tenants and landlords.

How did you get into commercial real estate?

I just knew that I would love it, so I pursued it as I was graduating from the University of Florida with a marketing degree and my Florida real estate license in hand. In college, I was captivated and intrigued about the development occurring in the Tampa Bay market, which led me to become licensed, and then pursue my first job in development turning down traditional marketing opportunities. Friends now tell me that they thought I was crazy! Maybe it takes just a little bit of crazy to get into this business and a lot of perseverance to succeed.

Who has been the most influential woman in your life?

My mother, Romeyn Snyder Gerrity, was a trail blazer and has been the biggest influence in my life. Born in 1925, she recently died at the ripe age of 95. She was a pioneer following her passion in biology and chemistry and was allowed to attend and graduate from an all-male Jesuit University as the first female graduate. A serious golfer and bridge player, she taught us not to see the barriers and my father, supported and admired her intellect, wisdom and tenacity. They were a great team.

What advice would you give women starting out in real estate?

Learn how to level the playing field and learn to play golf well!

This year's IWD theme is Choose to Challenge. What do you choose to challenge or celebrate to help create more inclusion in your community?

I love to celebrate, and diversity is worth celebrating. Diversity makes every aspect of our life more enriching and enjoyable. Recognizing our individual uniqueness and respecting the qualities and experiences leads to a much more fulfilling environment. More diversity of opinions creates thought-provoking and collaborative situations.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

We just adopted an obese (135 lb) 3-year-old Golden Retriever named Skippy aka Mr. Skippy, Skippidoodle, Skip, Skipperoni, and we are on a weight loss journey. He is down a healthy 25 lbs in four months!

What women’s organizations would you recommend other women get involved with?

Avison Young Women's Network, CREW and Junior League.

Diversity makes every aspect of our life more enriching and enjoyable.
