What is your role at Avison Young?

Principal & Managing Director.

How did you get into commercial real estate?

I was lucky. Very early in my career, I was presented with the opportunity to join Equity Office Properties to help kickoff a newly formed Internal Audit department. I did not know anything about real estate at the time, but I quickly fell in love with the company and industry.

Who has been the most influential woman in your life?

My older sister.

What advice would you give women starting out in real estate?

Learn everything you can and don't ever be afraid to ask questions or admit that you don't know something.

This year's IWD theme is Choose to Challenge. What do you choose to challenge or celebrate to help create more inclusion in your community?

I choose to challenge all men and women to ask themselves if they are creating an environment in their personal and professional lives that makes their co-workers, friends and family truly shine.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

I am really competitive.
