Meet Marcy Moneypenny

What is your role at Avison Young?

Managing Director/Principal of the Denver office.

How did you get into commercial real estate?

Before I knew the importance of having a "game plan" for my career, I was offered a job by Hines when I was working for the general contractor who did all of their tenant improvement work....I accepted not knowing what I know now!

Who has been the most influential woman in your life?

Frankly, the most influential person in my professional life has been a man. There are so many great sponsors and mentors in the world of CRE regardless of gender - I find diversity of thought to be key.

What advice would you give women starting out in real estate?

Do everything you can to always be yourself. Authenticity and transparency are highly valued...

This year's IWD theme is Choose to Challenge. What do you choose to challenge or celebrate to help create more inclusion in your community?

I choose to celebrate more inclusion through embracing diversity of thought and recognizing unconscious bias.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

I thrive in chaos.

What women’s organizations would you recommend other women get involved with?

Our internal Women's Network is a great way to make a difference in the lives of the women we have the privilege of standing shoulder to shoulder with every day. CREW is always a great choice, but again, I would love to see women make a difference in such organizations in their local markets as ULI or NAIOP.

I choose to celebrate more inclusion through embracing diversity of thought and recognizing unconscious bias.
