Meet Emma Berry

What is your role at Avison Young?

Director, Regional Head, North West Real Estate Management.

How did you get into commercial real estate?

In the last year of my degree, I took a part time job as an estate agent. Until then, real estate as a career had not even entered my radar. I was educated at an all-girls school and the only career options were medicine and law. Talking about the vast number of opportunities for careers within real estate to young women is one of my personal pledges.

Who has been the most influential woman in your life?

Every woman that has gone before me in this industry. I also have some fantastic peers who continually push and challenge my own development.

What advice would you give women starting out in real estate?

Be authentic. There is no need to conform anymore, and heels are not conducive to being on site!

This year's IWD theme is Choose to Challenge. What do you choose to challenge or celebrate to help create more inclusion in your community?

I choose to celebrate and champion individuals who speak up about inequality and gender bias. Through recognition we can work towards more inclusive environments.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

I was once on the front page of a national newspaper with the Queen (and very concerned security team!)

What women’s organizations would you recommend other women get involved with?

Surveying Sisterhood.

I choose to celebrate and champion individuals who speak up about inequality and gender bias.
