Meet Jacqueline Bond

What is your role at Avison Young?

Operations Coordinator.

How did you get into commercial real estate?

It was completely random how I got into the commercial real estate business. I met a woman on a mountain bike trail, and she recommended a real estate personnel company, which led to a job where I worked for nearly 11 years and stayed with it.

Who has been the most influential woman in your life?

Over the years, I have had several influential people, both men and women in my life, that helped shape me, guide me and mentor me. I have learned various things from all of them. I can't pinpoint just one person.

What advice would you give women starting out in real estate?

I would encourage women who are starting out in real estate to ask questions, soak up as much knowledge as you can, and to put yourself out there. Network, develop and strengthen relationships, for that is what will help make you successful. Don't be afraid to use your voice and ask for what you want. No one will hand you anything. You have to fight for yourself and stand up for yourself. And even if it doesn't lead to the desired end results, at least you gave it your all and you can feel good inside that you tried.

This year's IWD theme is Choose to Challenge. What do you choose to challenge or celebrate to help create more inclusion in your community?

I Choose to Challenge to stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves, to encourage others, and to set a good example. I choose to celebrate my heritage and all of the differences in each of us that makes us unique and beautiful. I choose to be thankful for the things that I have, and not focus on the things that I do not have.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

I taught myself how to ride a bike as a child, and I have lived in both Hawaii and Alaska - two states that many dream to visit.

What women’s organizations would you recommend other women get involved with?

CREW, Avison Young Women's Network, or any volunteer organization that speaks to you. It is important to give back to those less fortunate.

I Choose to Challenge to stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves, to encourage others, and to set a good example.
