With almost 50 years of experience in the real estate industry, Ron brings a broad perspective and understanding of the market to his clients. Over that time he has held positions in sales, institutional lending, valuation and financing.
Through his professional career he has held positions with the Appraisal Institute of Canada ranging from Edmonton Chapter Chair, Provincial President and Vice President of the National Association. Ron also sat as the Chair of the Appraisal Institute Standards Board. Advanced appraisal courses were presented on behalf of the Faculty of Extension for the University of Alberta as well as speaking engagements at real estate conferences regarding valuation and financing. Ron retains his membership in the AIC.
Over his professional career he has incorporated two of the leading appraisal companies in Edmonton and for the past 35 years has focused on mortgage financing. During his appraisal career he was instrumental in developing the first sales data service for Edmonton and providing independent market surveys, both of which remain active today. In 2007 he was a co-founder of Preferred Realty Capital, a boutique mortgage brokerage, which was acquired by Avison Young in 2017.
Mortgage financing functions have ranged from a $105,000,000 acquisition loan for a large seniors assisted living transaction to numerous loans for mid to larger investment companies across Canada. Land acquisition and development loans, refinance, acquisition and re-positioning assignments have benefited from his team approach. Our team is very active in the placement of CMHC insured loans.
Though focused on mortgage financing, the team has been given opportunities to expand the services and counsel provided to clients. These have included the coordination of land subdivisions, undertaking to complete condominium subdivisions, consultations on the financial aspects of development opportunities and providing input on proposed investments prior to the financing being undertaken.
