Valley Resorts secures planning consent for £62m Millendreath Beach Resort redevelopment

Global commercial real estate advisor Avison Young, acting on behalf of Valley Resorts, has secured planning permission for the redevelopment of Millendreath Beach Resort on the south coast of Cornwall.
Planning permission has been granted for 182 building regulation compliant holiday houses, a pool/spa leisure and reception building, a coastal sea-view restaurant and tennis courts. The proposed development is projected to create 68 full-time, year-round jobs and could contribute £32m to the local economy, with Valley Resorts investing £62m in the project.
The high-quality coastal properties will be finished in natural materials to complement the surrounding landscape and colours of the coastline. Avison Young’s environmental team have worked closely with the Environment Agency alongside JBA to design a flood alleviation channel and flood defence wall, protecting the development and local area from flooding in the future.
The scheme is also set to deliver repairs and enhancements to the existing coastal defences, new footpath connections and safe beach access. This comprises public facilities, including a new restaurant on the coastline, offering three floors of food and beverage facilities, as well as a water sports centre.
The development is also set to deliver strong ecological benefits for Cornwall’s south coast, with a 27% increase in habitats, a 248% increase in hedgerows and a 12% increase in watercourses.
Andrew Clark, CEO at Valley Resorts, said:
“Millendreath Beach Resort is the latest of our four holiday house schemes in key coastal tourism areas in Cornwall set to be transformed through thoughtful, sustainable development and high-quality design. We’re passionate about preserving Cornwall’s character and coastline, and we’ve worked closely with Cornwall Council and Avison Young through a period of community consultation to ensure that any redevelopment only benefits the location. This project will see an investment of approximately £62m into the area, creating new jobs and supporting the local economy.”
Paul Harwood, Director, Planning Consultancy at Avison Young, added:
“We’re very pleased to have worked with Valley Resorts, Cornwall Council and third-party specialists to secure planning permission for the landmark redevelopment of Millendreath Beach Resort. Upon completion, this will be a flagship development on Cornwall’s south coast, adding new, non-seasonal jobs to the area and contributing strongly to the local economy. It’s been fantastic to collaborate with our environmental specialists too, ensuring that the proposed redevelopment mitigates any future flood risk to the area and preserves it for generations to come. We’re very much looking forward to seeing the scheme now progress.”
