Former Cornish mining site to be transformed into high-end, eco-friendly holiday homes
October 24, 2025Global commercial real estate advisor Avison Young and Valley Resorts have secured planning permission for the next phase of the Towan Valley resort, transforming a former mining site into 44 high-end holiday homes overlooking the Cornish cliffs.
The next phase of the Towan Valley development was approved as a balanced and sustainable tourism initiative, reflecting Cornwall Council’s goal for strategic, eco-friendly tourism, preserving heritage whilst looking forward.
The first phases of Towan Valley saw a striking collection of eco-style cottages available for rent, tucked away in a peaceful valley on the North Cornwall coast. The new phase has been approved off the back of the success of the initial development, offering 44 homes for holiday lets, alongside a new leisure facility with a pool, sauna, gym, changing facilities and deck.
A landscape-led approach has been championed, aligning with previous phases of development through timber cladding and green and sedum roofs. The planning has also allocated part of the of land to serve as public open space, contributing to biodiversity net gain.
As a former mining site, the development directly delivers against the government’s own aim of effective use of land to deliver economic growth where housing would otherwise not be accepted.
With the next phase of development now approved, Towan Valley is set to become a beacon of eco-tourism in Cornwall – where heritage, design, and sustainability meet on the cliffs of one of Britain’s most beautiful coastlines.
Andrew Clark, CEO at Valley Resorts, said:
“It’s fantastic to now be able to move forward with the next era of the Towan Valley resort, creating both short-term and long-term jobs and stimulating the development of further public realm for local people on the beautiful Cornish coast.
“We have worked incredibly closely with our planning consultants Avison Young and Cornwall Council to address any prior concerns about the site, and we look forward to delivering a sustainable, high-quality development of holiday homes.”
Paul Harwood, Associate Director, Planning Consultancy at Avison Young, said:
