Royal Academy of Dramatic Art

  • Localisation: London, UK

The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) is a world class acting and technical training organisation based in central London.

RADA’s main premises have been located within Bloomsbury since 1921. Since this time their main building has undergone a number of refurbishments and the campus has expanded to encompass four individual buildings, including a Grade II listed building. With an expansive undergraduate, masters, and short course programmes, the RADA facilities are approaching capacity.

Following an in depth review of RADA’s vision and priorities a masterplan was developed in 2019 which addresses both RADA existing spatial restrictions and caters for the next 25 years training needs, allowing RADA to maintain its position as a centre for excellence in training for the dramatic arts.

The phased implementation of the project will involve consolidation of acting training facilities manifested through three interconnected buildings to create a varied suite of spaces from intimate singing rooms through to a large movement hall.

This will all be delivered in a cost effective manner developed to minimise operational decanting, and designed to maintain and enhance the open and democratic nature of the RADA buildings which attracts the world’s best teaching and student talent.
