The Postal Museum in Clerkenwell houses an extensive archive of British postal history. Previously known as the British Postal Museum & Archive (BPMA), the museum was renamed and a new building constructed to transform the attractions and events spaces as well as reinstate the disused Mail Rail tunnels as an attraction.
Avison Young has a long track record of successfully helping leading cultural projects in sourcing large grants via the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).
Avison Young acted as Mentor for the project on behalf of the HLF to evaluate the scheme and undertake a review of the application for a Round 2 Application for funding support. The delivery team carried out due diligence on the visitor attraction business model and income projections.
Avison Young provided further assistance in the recasting of the P&L and request for additional funding from the HLF. This additional grant was principally to cover inflationary uplift, development work on Mail Rail and increased costs in the business plan (operational and interpretation) post refinement.
This was a highly successful project that was shortlisted for and won numerous regional and national awards, including:
- Silver Award for Best Unusual or Unique Venue 2018 at London Venue Awards
- Best Marketing Campaign 2018
- Shortlisted for Best Permanent Exhibition 2018
