James Kornick joined the Washington, DC office of Avison Young as a Principal in November 2011. James has more than 25 years of real estate industry experience as a broker, developer and investor. As Managing Director at NorthMarq, he focused on providing investment services for office and medical-office properties. Prior to joining NorthMarq, James was an investment broker in the Mid-Atlantic region with two different national real estate service companies, establishing himself as a leader in the sale of investment real estate. He won numerous sales awards, including Top 20 Salesman in the nation. His exceptional understanding of local land use regulatory processes was derived from his tenure as Executive Director of Fairfax County Economic Development Authority and five years as assistant to a member of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.

James often serves as a speaker at events held by the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA), NAIOP and other national and local real estate organizations. He is a member of Northern Virginia and DC/Maryland NAIOP as well as the Healthcare Real Estate Insights Editorial Advisory Board. In the community, he is active with the Alexandria Carpenter’s Shelter and is a board member of the Northern Virginia Democratic Business Council and Past-President of Alexandria Country Day School.

James obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Towson University in Maryland with a concentration in economics and has also done graduate work at George Washington University.
