Jim Kerrigan

Jim has been a commercial real estate broker in the greater Chicago area for over 20 years.  Jim joined Avison in February, 2012 from Grubb & Ellis where he spent 4 years as an EVP &  National Director of the Data Center Practice Group.  Prior to that he had a similar role at Staubach where he spent 14 years working with data center and office clients.

Jim has become the foremost data center expert in North America. His role has run the gamut from helping clients differentiate occupancy costs from region to region or amongst wholesale providers within a particular locale.  He has helped support legislation related to reducing the property taxes that municipalities charge on data centers. Kerrigan has created financial models that better help his clients understand the hidden costs associated with occupancy comparing models on a square foot, per kilowatt and per rack basis.  In addition, Jim has been instrumental in finding clients both equity and debt financing.

Having focused on data center transactions for over 10 years, his expertise provides his clients knowledge of the most recent rent comparables and has a significant amount of experience negotiating expansion options, ramp/abatement provisions and determining fair market rental rates on data center renewals.

He is often chosen to speak at the various data center conferences and is frequently quoted in BusinessWeek, DataCenterKnowledge and Information Week.
