Tod Hughes joined Avison Young Canada in 1996 and has served in many leadership roles since that time. Currently Tod serves as a member of the Board of Directors, on The Executive Committee of the board, as well as being Chairman of the Compensation Committee for the firm.
Tod ran his own firm in Winnipeg, Manitoba prior to relocation to Calgary, Alberta in 1993. Tod has been a broker, partner and Managing Director at Avison Young Commercial Real Estate, finally becoming President and CEO from 2003 until 2008 when the provincial companies were rolled up into the new international entity, Avison Young Canada Inc.
Under Tod’s leadership Avison Young Alberta added offices in Winnipeg and Regina, expanded into real estate finance in a partnership under the Jaycap Financial banner, entered the property management business in Calgary and Edmonton and added significant strength to the legacy brokerage and transaction business. During this tenure as President, Avison Young Alberta grew gross annual revenues an average of 25%. Tod was subsequently involved in providing leadership and guidance in the merger of the Avison Young legacy real estate businesses in BC, Ontario, Quebec and Alberta helping create a platform for the dynamic growth the company is currently enjoying. For his efforts in this endeavor Tod was awarded the Avison Young “Chairman’s Award”, a lifetime achievement award that is only rarely presented.
Tod has been immersed in the real estate business since 1978. During this time Tod has been engaged in real estate brokerage, sales and leasing, property management, sales management, development (internationally and in Canada), finance and syndication.
Tod is active in numerous charitable organizations in Alberta, presently serving on the Board of Governors for Opportunity International, an organization providing micro-finance services to the poor around the globe.
Tod has been involved in billions of dollars of real estate transactions over the years covering all disciplines and continues his ongoing involvement in mentorship, philanthropy and governance.
